How Much does a Battery Replacement Cost?

Updated: Mar 1, 2019

The battery is your vehicle's main source of electrical power.

It gives power to the starter motor, fuel pump, engine control computer (when the driver turns the key), and allows the vehicle to start.

It also supplies power to the radio, headlights and other electrical components inside the car which provides entertainment and information to the driver.

It is important to make sure your battery and charging system is in good working order, otherwise, you may get stranded with a vehicle that won’t start!

The average battery replacement starts at around $100, and depending on the type of vehicle, can increase to $250+

WHAT IS A BATTERY?

The battery is a large electrical storage device filled with electrolyte and lead plates, and is charged by the alternator when the vehicle is running. It is joined into the cars electrical system through two posts that protrude through the top of the battery. This allows the charge to be transferred through the vehicle to where it is needed.

TIPS TO REMEMBER

- You may lose radio and clock settings during this repair, so make sure to have any necessary radio PIN codes handy to restore operation.

- Vehicles equipped with ‘Stop-Start’ systems, which shut the engine down in certain situations to save fuel, have specially designed batteries that can withstand the extra load that is put on the system. These vehicles are fitted with heavy duty batteries, and failure to fit the correct battery may cause issues with the system, and premature failure

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR BATTERY REPLACED
